Etsy recently donated $100,000 to charitable organizations. The donation happened through a non-traditional route. Etsy partnered with Liquid Technology to remove and resell their excess IT hardware to prepare for a cloud migration. The e-commerce giant chose to donate the funds from the liquidated equipment to non-profits organizations, The Loyalty Foundation and Per Scholas. The donation to The Loyalty Foundation will significantly aid their mission to get technology into the hands of children in underrepresented communities, allowing for the purchase and distribution of 500 refurbished Chromebooks. While the donation to […]
Semiconductors are small components, but they help power the brains of much of our everyday technology, from mobile phones to cars. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and recent tariffs, there is a semiconductor shortage. Major electronic brands like LG and Samsung have been open about the impact on electronic manufacturing. Samsung’s head of investor relations, Ben Suh, said “Due to the global semiconductor shortage, we are also experiencing some effects especially around certain set products and display production.” The automotive industry was one of the industries greatly affected by the […]
Last year, IT departments played an integral part in restructuring procedures to adapt to the remote workforce. Due to this, businesses offering services to help organizations work virtually have thrived. However, the shift to more cloud-based services has negatively impacted many industries. One market deeply affected is telecommunications, namely business phone systems. The increase in remote work and businesses down-sizing have contributed to a surplus of used phones in the resale market. In November, Gartner published its annual report about the UCaaS (Unified Communications as a service) industry. The report […]
During this time, organizations are shifting priorities. Many companies are looking for alternative sources of capital. Organizations may overlook the value of their excess IT equipment. Selling decommissioned IT hardware can provide a much-needed cash infusion for enterprises. Reselling IT Equipment is an Art Although IT equipment can hold value, reselling can be time-consuming and complicated. Staff may need countless hours to adopt proper procedures while still managing other organizational tasks. Another challenge could be how to handle shipping and sales accurately. Companies with locations across the globe must take […]
Business changes at the speed of technology, and today’s technology is in a constant state of acceleration. The truth is, if your company’s IT infrastructure hasn’t been upgraded in the past four years, then it is already outdated and in severe need of upgrading. Undergoing a server refresh will not only help make your company more competitive, but it will enjoy smoother communications, faster performance, and improved results. If you find that your network is lagging, your data isn’t “big” enough, or your system just isn’t capable of meeting the […]
It’s hard to believe it, but as of April 8th, 2015, it will have been one full year since Microsoft officially announced Windows XP’s EOL. And, as we have seen over the past year, companies that have been slow in upgrading to Microsoft’s newer and more secure operating systems have become prime targets for cyber thieves. So, with the one year anniversary of Windows XP’s retirement looming, we thought we’d take a look back at the past year to see the overwhelming effect the event had on businesses. Windows XP […]
If you’ve been keeping up with our blog, then you know that the world is still reeling from Microsoft’s decision to pull the plug on its popular Windows XP operating system last year. But, the software giant apparently isn’t done. Microsoft is striking yet another blow to the industry in 2015, on July 14th to be exact, as that is the day the company will end technical support for its Windows Server 2003 operating system. This news has computer manufacturers like HP and Dell striving to bridge the gap as […]
Sometimes it takes something extreme to get people’s attentions. For years, IT experts have been issuing warnings of an impending 512k crisis and now the day of reckoning has finally come. On Tuesday, August 12, 2014, the Internet broke under its own weight. The reason? It finally hit its arbitrary limit of more than 512,000 routes. What Caused the 512k Problem? The root cause for the 512k problem is the fact that many Internet service providers failed to upgrade their routers from Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) to Internet Protocol […]
Today, technology moves at the speed of light. That smartphone you just bought will be obsolete technology by the time you’re done reading this article. By this time next year, you’ll be able to get a phone that holds more and does more for the same price, if not less. In the world of technology, there is no “keeping up with the Joneses” because the Jones’ technology just got passed up. It really is amazing how fast things change. In fact, here are eight innovative (at the time) pieces of […]
As the world becomes increasingly reliant on computers for everything from making inventory orders to managing medical records, the risk for major companies suffering data breaches is likewise growing. The risk is even higher when companies fail to have an effective IT asset disposition (ITAD) policy in place and for those that do suffer data theft, the price can be quite high, both figuratively and literally. As a result of these growing risks, a company-wide ITAD policy needs to be an integral part of every organization’s security strategy. Here, we […]
