Every year, America’s tech corporations implement more and more eco-responsible ways of doing business. And for many companies, practicing green has become a way of life.
Recently, Bloomberg conducted a survey to find out which major tech corporations are the “greenest.” Here are their findings and the top 10 green technology companies in the U.S.
Dell is one of the country’s largest computer manufacturers and 47.9% of the power it uses annually comes from green resources like biogas, solar, and wind. Of all the tech companies on the list, Dell utilizes the highest amount of eco-friendly power purchased from utility providers as the computer giant produces just a tenth of its energy on-site.
Of all the energy used by Advanced Micro Devices Inc. over the course of a year, a little over half of it comes from renewable air power generated by wind turbines. Advanced Micro Devices Inc. purchases just over 79% of its green energy from utility products.
Microsoft generates 79.7% of its green energy from resources like solar, wind, small-hydro, and biomass, but none of it is created on-site. One hundred percent of the company’s green power comes from Renewable Energy Certificates.
Apple generates 18.9% of its own energy on-site using solar farms, but 85.3% of its entire green energy comes from off-site biomass, biogas, solar, geothermal, wind, and small-hydro providers. However, just 23.2 % of Apple’s green energy is eligible for Renewable Energy Certificates with 59.7% of its energy coming from purchased utility products.
97.6% of the energy used by Adobe Systems Inc. comes from green sources like wind turbines and biogas. Over 18% of its energy is produced on-site while 81.8% of it comes from Renewable Energy Certificates.
Workday Inc. produces green energy from biomass, wind turbines, and small-hydro that is 100% equivalent to its annual electrical usage. Plus, 100% of the company’s green energy is eligible for Renewable Energy Certificates.
SAP AG might be a German-owned company, but its American division generates 100% of its annual electricity usage from solar and wind sources, all of which are eligible for Renewable Energy Certificates. This makes SAP AG America the fourth greenest tech company in the country.
Using biomass, solar, wind, biogas, and small-hydro, Intel Corp. is capable of producing 100% of its annual electricity usage. Nearly 100% of the company’s green energy is eligible for Renewable Energy Certificates.
Advantest America actually creates more energy than it uses every year. The company generates 102.4% of its annual energy using wind-powered turbines and all of it is eligible for Renewable Energy Certificates.
Lenovo tops Bloomberg’s list of the top 10 green technology companies in the U.S. because it generates a whopping 288% of its annual energy usage via renewable resources. Plus, all of it is eligible for Renewable Energy Certificates. In addition, the computer manufacturer makes eco-responsibility a business standard as 98% of its products are eligible for Energy Star compliance.
